About the brand

A Belgian house from Antwerp. The first theo glasses appeared in 1989, made by two opticians, Wim Somers and Patrick Hoet, each of whom ran his own shop. The name is an anagram of Hoet: THEO from HOET. The house makes deliberately wilful shapes and works with unusual materials - acetate, titanium, steel and aluminium, often in one frame.

Two shops, one brand

Somers and Hoet were opticians, each with his own shop in Antwerp. The eyewear they wanted to sell did not exist, so they made it themselves - the first theo glasses appeared in 1989.

A single frame often brings together acetate, titanium, steel and aluminium - a combination standard optical manufacturing avoids, because those materials behave differently.

Why Antwerp

The house slogan - „theo loves you" - began as a casual note written on an invoice. It stuck, and the house is known by it as much as by its frames.
