Ceci n'est pas une Theo
With the Clin d'œil family Theo pays tribute to Surrealism and the Belgian painter René Magritte. Each frame hides an eye in the temple that only reveals itself when the glasses are folded - a wink, literally and figuratively. The Eye is likened to Magritte's painting The False Mirror (Le Faux Miroir): seeing and being seen go hand in hand.

Theo
A Belgian house from Antwerp. The first theo glasses appeared in 1989, made by two opticians, Wim Somers and Patrick Hoet, each of whom ran his own shop. The name is an anagram of Hoet: THEO from HOET. The house makes deliberately wilful shapes and works with unusual materials - acetate, titanium, steel and aluminium, often in one frame.
