About the brand

The house was founded in Hong Kong in 2012 by Ti Kwa, a Malaysian-born designer, and Jean-Marc Virard. The frames are made by hand in their Hong Kong atelier, from buffalo horn, wood, titanium, copper, silver and aluminium-magnesium alloy. Each piece passes through the hands of one artisan, from choosing the material to the final polish.

Their own studio, and no one else's

Rigards makes its frames in its own Hong Kong atelier. There is no factory a drawing gets sent to - every step, from choosing the material to the final polish, happens in one place and through one pair of hands.

The first collection was made from real buffalo horn. Horn cannot be moulded, only cut and ground, and every sheet has its own colour and grain - so the artisan who started knows where the material gives.

Why horn, and not acetate

Acetate is predictable: same colour, same thickness, every time. Horn is not - and that is why the house uses it. It is also lighter than it looks and takes on skin temperature, so after an hour you stop feeling it.
