Uma Wang and Rigards

The theme of the collaboration is primordial nature and indigenous aesthetics. The radial pattern of the rims pays homage to tribes in Asia and Africa whose ornamental rings are part of traditional attire. Uma Wang is a designer known for sumptuous fabrics and prints; Rigards is an atelier that makes its frames by hand, from natural materials.

„The frame takes both sun and prescription lenses. The patina is applied by hand, so the tone varies from piece to piece - this is not a defect but a feature of the frame.“

Rigards

The house was founded in Hong Kong in 2012 by Ti Kwa, a Malaysian-born designer, and Jean-Marc Virard. The frames are made by hand in their Hong Kong atelier, from buffalo horn, wood, titanium, copper, silver and aluminium-magnesium alloy. Each piece passes through the hands of one artisan, from choosing the material to the final polish.
