Horn that would have been waste

Rigards sources its horn from water buffalo that died of natural causes in Ethiopia and Egypt, so material that would have ended up as waste becomes a frame. Pieces of horn differ in pattern, tone and translucency, which is why no two frames are the same.

„We carry it in Black and White, with clear lenses. The frame is made for prescription lenses as well.“

Rigards

The house was founded in Hong Kong in 2012 by Ti Kwa, a Malaysian-born designer, and Jean-Marc Virard. The frames are made by hand in their Hong Kong atelier, from buffalo horn, wood, titanium, copper, silver and aluminium-magnesium alloy. Each piece passes through the hands of one artisan, from choosing the material to the final polish.
