About the brand
An Italian house founded in 1978 by Brunello Cucinelli in Solomeo, a village near Perugia. It began with cashmere in colours nobody was making at the time, and is known today as much for how it operates: wages are twenty percent above the market, overtime is forbidden, and the lunch break lasts an hour and a half. The eyewear is recent - the licence with EssilorLuxottica was signed in 2022 and the first collection appeared in 2024.

A village bought to be restored
In 1985 Cucinelli bought a derelict fourteenth-century castle in Solomeo and spent two years restoring it. In 1987 he moved the entire company there, and there it remains.
The house has been called the king of cashmere, but what it is known for in Italy is its attitude to work: work that does not use a person up. Eyewear is the most recent addition.
An hour and a half for lunch
In Solomeo the day runs from eight to half past five and not a minute longer - overtime is forbidden. The lunch break lasts an hour and a half and is eaten together. Wages are twenty percent above the market. The house presents this not as a perk but as a condition: an object made to last is not made in a hurry.
