About the brand

A Danish house from Aarhus. Poul-Jørn Lindberg opened an optician's shop there in 1969 and kept hearing the same complaints - frames are heavy, they leave marks, they show more than the face. Out of that came the screwless spiral hinge, in titanium. The first prototype was made in 1983 and went on sale in 1986. The frames have no screws, rivets or welds - material tension holds them together.

The screwless hinge

The screw is the weakest point of any frame - it adds weight, it shows, and sooner or later it works loose. Lindberg replaced it with a titanium spiral that works on tension and has nothing to release.

The first prototype was made in 1983 and went on sale three years later. Since 2021 the house has belonged to the Kering group, but the frames are still made in Aarhus.

Why every frame is adjusted

With Lindberg you choose not only the model but the temple length, the nose pad shape and the colour of each part separately. So two ordered frames of one model are not the same - each is measured to the face that wears it.
