About the brand
An Italian fashion house headquartered in Florence. It was founded by Guccio Gucci in Florence in 1921, and under the direction of his son Aldo it became a global brand. The house makes ready-to-wear, footwear, accessories, handbags, home decoration and eyewear. In 1947 it introduced the Bamboo bag, with handles of lightweight bamboo, as a response to post-war material scarcity. Since 1999 it has been part of the Kering group. Since the January 2017 collection Gucci eyewear has been developed, manufactured and distributed by Kering Eyewear; before that it was made under licence by Safilo.

Eyewear by Kering Eyewear
In 2014 the Kering group announced it would end its eyewear licences and take over the design, manufacturing and distribution of a dozen of its houses, Gucci among them. Kering Eyewear, based in Padua, delivered its first Gucci collection in January 2017; until then Gucci eyewear was made under licence by Safilo.
In the Spring-Summer 2026 collection Gucci combines acetate and metal: thick acetate sculpted into wide cat-eye and narrow rectangular frames, with metal logos set vertically along the side profile. Bamboo, a house motif since the 1947 bag, returns on temples and frame components.
Portraits instead of logos
The Spring-Summer 2026 eyewear campaign leaves behind the lavish scenes of earlier seasons. It is shot as a series of close-up portraits, in which the glasses become part of the wearer's face and character rather than just an accessory.
