About the brand
A Swiss house founded in 2020. The collections are drawn by Jeff Solorio and John Juniper, who previously worked as designers at DITA. The name comes from the Latin for "priceless, worthy of admiration". The frames are made entirely in Japan, from custom parts rather than catalogue ones.

Shokunin
The house invokes shokunin - the Japanese idea of craft in which the maker works not for the customer but for the object itself. The practical consequence is that what nobody will see is finished too, because otherwise the maker would know it was left undone.
Japan turned titanium into frames in the eighties: at the same weight twice as strong as aluminium, stronger than steel at half of it, and free of the metals skin reacts to. That is why the frame can be thin without bending.
Parts are made to measure, not picked from a catalogue
Most houses assemble a frame from a supplier's catalogue parts - hinges, pads, screws. Akoni has them made to measure for each model. That is why the frame does not feel assembled, and also why it costs more than it first appears it should.
