About the brand
A Los Angeles house founded in 1986; the first shop opened in 1987 on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood. It began with a lot of old American frames bought for five thousand dollars at a Connecticut auction - hence the first models. The Japanese part of the range, including all the titanium frames, is made in Fukui.

A box from an auction
In 1986 Kenny Schwartz and the brothers Larry and Dennis Leight were looking for something to stock their new West Hollywood shop. At a Connecticut auction they bought, for five thousand dollars, a lot of old American frames still in their original packaging. Rather than resell them, they copied them.
Hence the way the frames look: nothing is new in terms of shape, everything is taken from something that already existed and refined. Which is why they still hold twenty years on.
Why nothing shines
The house avoids glossy finishes and hard contrasts. The aim is a frame that looks worn in from day one - so nobody notices when it is new, or when it is old. The titanium models are all made in Fukui, where the house has worked since the beginning.
