About the brand
A Los Angeles house founded in 1986; the first shop opened in 1987 on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood. It began with a lot of old American frames bought for five thousand dollars at a Connecticut auction - hence the first models. The Japanese part of the range, including all the titanium frames, is made in Fukui.

A box from an auction
In 1986 Ken Schwartz and the brothers Larry and Dennis Leight were looking for stock for a new shop in West Hollywood. At an auction in Connecticut they bought a lot of old American frames, still in their original packaging, for five thousand dollars, and based their first models on them.
The Japanese part of the collection is made in Fukui, and the titanium models only there.
Where the name comes from
A popular story says the name was found on a receipt in the auction box, but that is a myth: the founders made it up themselves, starting from the initials OP.
